What is the purpose of stirrups in concrete?
Stirrups for concrete, sometimes called masonry stirrups, essentially form an outer layer to the rebar cages that create the “backbone” or “spine” of concrete columns in construction. They’re generally placed at intervals along concrete forms to prevent failure in the final product. Stirrups resist shear forces in concrete and provide lasting strength for structures of all kinds.
What’s the difference between ties and stirrups?
Concrete ties are generally straight pieces of rebar that form some of the core reinforcement in lengths of concrete, helping to prevent buckling or torsional failures.
